Adada Mazhaida – Rahul Nambiar, Saindhavi

Yuvan’s taken the generic folk template here and has tried to stay safe. I felt like I was listening to a less awesome reprise of ‘Dhavani Potta Deepavali’ from Sandai Kozhi . So much so that choosing Rahul Nambiar over Vijay Jesudas might have been for that exact reason.

En Kadhal Solla  - Yuvan

While I found the arrangements for this song  a little below par(almost amateurish) for Yuvan’s standards, the interludes totally made up for the song. Nothing else noteworthy in this song.

Poongatre Poongarte – Benny Dayal

Benny, has been singing in almost every movie now. But it has been mostly weak songs(relative to the other songs in the movie), the trend continues here. Everything in this song is plain. Even Yuvan’s generally strong interludes seems to gave gone for a nap in this song. A ‘single listen’ song.

Suthudhe Suthudhe  - Karthik, Sunitha Sarathy

I am not sure if Karthik gets the cream of the soundtracks he sings by default or he makes it so by his singing. I am totally biased to his voice. The ‘ra-ra-ra-radhe’ bit is awesome. The pick of the soundtrack.

Thuli Thuli – Haricharan, Tanvi

The music in the beginning and the ‘sel-sel’ reminds of me some catchy earlier song(see waveform below). I am not sure if its an old english or a regional song. Otherwise its a wonderful track with excellent vocals from Haricharan. I am not even sure why Tanvi is credited here with some very very light background vocals.

Final Verdict

An average soundtrack from Yuvan, with only Suthudhe and Thulli standing out. I wish Yuvan would experiment more, it seems he is playing safe, staying in his groove. Yuvan’s got more potential, but this soundtrack is not exploring that.

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya Promo Song – As usual GREAT !

// October 4th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // MUSIC

The promo song sounds even better because of its cute, gibberish lyrics.

Is there anything called ‘burnout’ for Rahman songs?

Kallori Movie Review – Realistically Slow!!

// December 8th, 2007 // No Comments » // RANDOM

Watched Kallori(college) movie today….Overall ….movie is OK !!!
Movie is based on the massacre of the 3 college students in Dharmapuri District(shown in the movie as somewhere in Andhra for political reasons)…..The movie has a tragic ending of course…..
The director has added a romantic track to make it a commercial film ……. the hero(main protagonist) although he looks like not…plays the part really well….the movie is very realistic …as in the characterization is very very good!!!Tamanna (as a Bishop Cotton Blore student) plays the contrasting ‘fair’ character to the T.
While the the charatcers are mostly underplaying for the realistic touch there are some scenes where the characters overplay…the scene when Tamanna says she does not want to go to Birla Academy is like super duper dappa !!!!
The movie is certainly a snail !!!! it struggles to catch a flow!!!! …..
Comedy in the first half is fresh….while it is exposed a little tad too much esp the twins character!
Music is good….June July and the theme stick on!!!! ….background score is really good!!! but there is a KAdhal hangover !!!
Cinematography is sufficient!!!
While the movie is good for its no Star cast …the movie could have been better.Its a sensitive issue and it has not been exploited……
Well the director has to be commended to take a movie on such a topic ….to make sure that ppl still remember that stupid idiotic insane incident which happ….and the supposed convicts are still being tried!!!
But i still want to come out of a theater happy and not sad……Kadhal …Kallori….i hope he makes the next movie atleast based on the triumph of human spirit and the not about the lack of it.
