A music review after a long long time. Final verdict here.

Adada Mazhaida – Rahul Nambiar, Saindhavi

Yuvan’s taken the generic folk template here and has tried to stay safe. I felt like I was listening to a less awesome reprise of ‘Dhavani Potta Deepavali’ from Sandai Kozhi . So much so that choosing Rahul Nambiar over Vijay Jesudas might have been for that exact reason.

En Kadhal Solla  - Yuvan

While I found the arrangements for this song  a little below par(almost amateurish) for Yuvan’s standards, the interludes totally made up for the song. Nothing else noteworthy in this song.

Poongatre Poongarte – Benny Dayal

Benny, has been singing in almost every movie now. But it has been mostly weak songs(relative to the other songs in the movie), the trend continues here. Everything in this song is plain. Even Yuvan’s generally strong interludes seems to gave gone for a nap in this song. A ’single listen’ song.

Suthudhe Suthudhe  - Karthik, Sunitha Sarathy

I am not sure if Karthik gets the cream of the soundtracks he sings by default or he makes it so by his singing. I am totally biased to his voice. The ‘ra-ra-ra-radhe’ bit is awesome. The pick of the soundtrack.

Thuli Thuli – Haricharan, Tanvi

The music in the beginning and the ’sel-sel’ reminds of me some catchy earlier song(see waveform below). I am not sure if its an old english or a regional song. Otherwise its a wonderful track with excellent vocals from Haricharan. I am not even sure why Tanvi is credited here with some very very light background vocals.

Final Verdict

An average soundtrack from Yuvan, with only Suthudhe and Thulli standing out. I wish Yuvan would experiment more, it seems he is playing safe, staying in his groove. Yuvan’s got more potential, but this soundtrack is not exploring that.

Microsoft Security Essentials – Lookin Good

// October 4th, 2009 // No Comments » // TECHNOLOGY

Firstly I never thought that I could write a full post on Microsoft. Secondly, even if I go on to write a post on it , it would have more often that not been a rant about a BSOD or UAC or other characteristic microsoft silliness. But this post funnily is all nice about a product called Microsoft Security Essential (MSE).

We all know how frustrating and irritating it is to find a good Anti-Virus software for our home use. Some of the basic criteria would be:

  1. Free
  2. Non Intrusive
  3. Background Updates
  4. Free

I found AVG anti-virus software the best according to this metric, which I found very capable in thwarting the viruses to a certain degree. But, now I think  Microsoft makes a slightly better product than AVG with MSE.

Other than the above mentioned characteristic, MSE is just 4.3 MB to download and a even meager 1MB to run the program while idle. This opens up significant improvement in speed. I installed it last week and it has been running very smooth and without any hassles since.

So if you are looking for a free, efficient, simple anti-virus program, believe it or not, it is Microsoft Security Essentials. The comment is all yours now.
