Blog goes touch optimized

// November 29th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // TECHNOLOGY

Ok, lot of tech posts.

This blog has now become ‘touch screen phone’ optimized. So if you have an iPod Touch, Android or an iPhone, you are going to see a different and more finger (no not that finger, you have the comments for that) friendly site to browse through.
It can be toggled to the original normal browser look at the bottom of the page.
Technology enabled by a wordpress plugin called WPtouch.

Blogging from my iPod touch

// November 29th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // OTHERS, TECHNOLOGY

My first post using my iPod touch. I find this would be the mode I would be blogging more often, simply because it would allow me to capture my thoughts as it comes(atleast I wish). So happy reading.
And I never thought I would say this – ‘ typing in an iPod touch is awesome ‘

Thanks from a tip from a friend of mine, this website gets a facelift for picture viewing. Basically used the lightbox plugin to get the overlay effect. Check out some of the photos now using this plugin.

I have updated from a google hosted blogspot site to self hosted WordPress site with a cool(:) custom domain. Of course , it is a work in progress and would require lot more suggestions and perspectives from others to make it bearable. So please take this poll for me to gauge your reactions of the website and please do suggest me some tips in the comments.

Microsoft Security Essentials – Lookin Good

// October 4th, 2009 // No Comments » // TECHNOLOGY

Firstly I never thought that I could write a full post on Microsoft. Secondly, even if I go on to write a post on it , it would have more often that not been a rant about a BSOD or UAC or other characteristic microsoft silliness. But this post funnily is all nice about a product called Microsoft Security Essential (MSE).

We all know how frustrating and irritating it is to find a good Anti-Virus software for our home use. Some of the basic criteria would be:

  1. Free
  2. Non Intrusive
  3. Background Updates
  4. Free

I found AVG anti-virus software the best according to this metric, which I found very capable in thwarting the viruses to a certain degree. But, now I think  Microsoft makes a slightly better product than AVG with MSE.

Other than the above mentioned characteristic, MSE is just 4.3 MB to download and a even meager 1MB to run the program while idle. This opens up significant improvement in speed. I installed it last week and it has been running very smooth and without any hassles since.

So if you are looking for a free,efficient, simple anti-virus program, believe it or not, it is Microsoft Security Essentials.The comment is all yours now.

Google Chrome with Bookmark Sync Now!

// October 4th, 2009 // No Comments » // TECHNOLOGY

Google Chrome dev channel, the developer build of the popular internet browser made by Google, now allows  Bookmark Syncing directly from the browser. So all your Chrome bookmarks are available across different systems and browsers. It syncs all bookmarks into your Google Docs account in a folder named Google Chrome.

While it made sense to me to see it integrate the bookmarks to the Google Toolbar for Firefox or Internet Explorer, it did not work for me. Google also has a bookmarking service online, but it did not show up here as well. I thought these two would be the most logical place to tie the bookmarks , but Google Docs is where it synced the bookmarks.I hope Google has bigger and better plans for this cool new feature as this is a huge step forward into the glitzy world of browser syncing and cloud.

I still have not tried logging into another system running the dev build of the browser to see its effectiveness. Will update the post as soon as I do this. Meanwhile if any of you enthusiastic folks used this new feature, the comment is all yours.
