Paiya Music Review- Yuvan plays safe!
// November 22nd, 2009 // MUSIC
A music review after a long long time. Final verdict here.
Adada Mazhaida – Rahul Nambiar, Saindhavi
Yuvan’s taken the generic folk template here and has tried to stay safe. I felt like I was listening to a less awesome reprise of ‘Dhavani Potta Deepavali’ from Sandai Kozhi . So much so that choosing Rahul Nambiar over Vijay Jesudas might have been for that exact reason.
En Kadhal Solla - Yuvan
While I found the arrangements for this song a little below par(almost amateurish) for Yuvan’s standards, the interludes totally made up for the song. Nothing else noteworthy in this song.
Poongatre Poongarte – Benny Dayal
Benny, has been singing in almost every movie now. But it has been mostly weak songs(relative to the other songs in the movie), the trend continues here. Everything in this song is plain. Even Yuvan’s generally strong interludes seems to gave gone for a nap in this song. A ’single listen’ song.
Suthudhe Suthudhe - Karthik, Sunitha Sarathy
I am not sure if Karthik gets the cream of the soundtracks he sings by default or he makes it so by his singing. I am totally biased to his voice. The ‘ra-ra-ra-radhe’ bit is awesome. The pick of the soundtrack.
Thuli Thuli – Haricharan, Tanvi
The music in the beginning and the ’sel-sel’ reminds of me some catchy earlier song(see waveform below). I am not sure if its an old english or a regional song. Otherwise its a wonderful track with excellent vocals from Haricharan. I am not even sure why Tanvi is credited here with some very very light background vocals.
An average soundtrack from Yuvan, with only Suthudhe and Thulli standing out. I wish Yuvan would experiment more, it seems he is playing safe, staying in his groove. Yuvan’s got more potential, but this soundtrack is not exploring that.
Comments are all yours now.

Crisp review.
However, not agreeing with you
I find this alum very good. Though there are recycling in bits and pieces, the album is worth buying.
En Kadhal solla has very good orchestration. Shocked that you called it amateurish.
An instantly likable album.
Hi Vinith,
I like the album as well, just dont think that that Yuvan gave his best ( PV, Tamil MA, Raam, PP,KK, 7G etc). I think he just gave what the director wanted (fair). About En Kadhal Solla , i dont know while i loved the interludes , the general feeling I had was that it felt like Yuvan at his early days. Of course it is very subjective and thank you for your insights.
Agree with both prashanth and vinith. The albun is likable but repetitive.
classic songs.
tamanna on her way to no 1 in Tamil(wrong)
she is the best actress in India (fact)and my favorite after madhuri dixit.
I would not say it as a classic, but decently good songs !
Hey I found which song that tune resembles..Listen to “Kannai kasakkum suriyano red red red” from the crappy Ajith movie Red..The same tune comes in that song tune..
Exactly, that bit sounds very similar. But I am not sure how much Yuvan would want to be compared with Deva
